Farewell...For Now
A while back, when I first started this blog, I paid for a yearly subscription to support the site. A year later I had forgotten about it and it auto-renewed. No biggie at the time, but I still went about cancelling the next renewal. These past few months I have been riding out the remainder of that second year support, and it has now come to an end.
When I started posting in earnest my goal was to see if I got much of anything out of blogging here, and in truth I wish I got more than I did. Though I don't miss social media, I do miss social interaction. I miss people engaging with the ideas of others, in good faith, and either echoing, expanding on, or respectfully pushing back against them. I miss camaraderie and the edification and education that comes from interacting with those who you would otherwise never have the chance to meet. Much of who I am and much of my world view comes from such exposure, and it's beyond a tragedy that said exposure is now gated behind algorithms or locked behind the toxicity of a comment page.
I suppose I'm trying to say I have found posting here to be unfulfilling on the whole. I want to share my thoughts and ideas with folks, of course, I am only human after all and we all want to be seen and known on some level. But more than that, I want to engage with both my and the thoughts and feelings of others in a meaningful way. This blog was more of a journal that I could see some people read, but unfortunately nothing more.
So as the subscription ends, and as money grows ever tighter, I'm afraid I must budget my time and finances elsewhere. I really do appreciate what all readers I may have picked up along the way. Maybe I'll be back. Maybe not. Who's to say what the future holds?
Regardless, I hope it treats us all well. Or at least better than the past has of late.
